In October 1996, the entertainment industry organized a benefit for Kaufman, then diagnosed with cancer. This unique concert, entitled "The Concert for Manglerdesh," held at the famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, featured the cream of the crop: Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, Tricia Yearwood, Marty Stuart, Steve Earle, and others.

A small quantity of T-shirts (size L only) produced exclusively for "Road Mangler Deluxe" Phil Kaufman's 1996 benefit concert are still available. The front of the shirt includes Phil's prison "mugshot" (dating back to his Federal sojourn with Charles Manson) and the back lists the artists and other conspirators responsible for the famous "Concert for Manglerdesh" at the Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, November 5, 1996.
